Art3d Acoustic Foam Panels: My Installation and review video preview

I installed one panel from the Art3d four-pack in my office while converting the room into a sound studio. My main questions were how the folded foam would recover, whether the included adhesive pads would hold, and what the panel would be like once mounted.

The listing describes these as wedge-design polyurethane foam panels and says the package includes four 48 x 24 x 2-inch panels, double-sided adhesive squares, and installation instructions. My own measurement of the panel was approximately 49 by 24.25 inches, so it was slightly larger than the listed face dimensions. I did not measure its thickness.

The foam is soft and very flexible. It arrived folded inside a compact package, but after I unpacked it and let it sit, it had expanded to its full shape within about 30 minutes. Some reviews described the panels as flimsy, but the flexibility made sense to me for this type of soft foam panel. I thought the foam felt soft and seemed high quality.

Because my walls had recently been painted, I did not apply the included adhesive squares directly to the paint. I had read reviews warning that the adhesive might remove paint, so I put masking tape on the wall first and attached the adhesive squares to that. This was my precaution, not a test proving that masking tape will prevent paint damage.

The panel initially started to fall when I placed it against the wall gently. I then spent a few minutes pressing slowly and firmly across the panel. After that, it stayed in place when I tugged on it and was still holding several minutes later. That was only a short-term installation check, so it does not establish how well the adhesive will hold over time.

I did not perform a controlled sound-absorption test. After mounting the first panel, however, I could hear less echo in that corner of the office. My plan is to spread the other three panels around the room rather than place all four together. Based on the foam, its recovery after unpacking, and the initial installation, I was happy with the purchase and considered it a good deal.
