TAUROX 1/2-Inch Electrical Whip: My Water-Heater review video preview

I installed this TAUROX 1/2-inch electrical whip on my water heater a few months before recording this review. The installation passed inspection without a problem, and the whip has worked well in this application.

The listing identifies it as a four-foot assembly with three 10-gauge conductors and a ground inside flexible, nonmetallic conduit. It is sold for applications such as an outdoor AC disconnect box. The seller also describes the conduit as resistant to corrosion, oil, water, sunlight, and outdoor exposure. Those are listing claims rather than performance tests I conducted.

What stood out during my installation was the flexibility of the stranded wires. The assembly arrived with crimped hooks on the wire ends. I did not need those hooks for my cutoff box, so I cut them off and connected the wires without any trouble.

I was impressed with the overall quality. When I bought it, it cost much less than the options I found at big-box stores. Based on this installation, I thought its quality was similar or possibly better, although that is my impression rather than a controlled comparison.

My experience is limited to this water-heater installation, but it did what I needed it to do. It was flexible, easy to connect after removing the supplied hooks, passed inspection in this installation, and has continued to work well.
