YOLOLIV YoloCam S3 first look: sturdy hardware review video preview

The YOLOLIV YoloCam S3 made a strong first impression during unboxing and setup. This is not a long-term review or a complete image-quality test. I only examined the hardware and magnetic mount, connected the camera, and explored the software controls.

The camera and stand came in separate small boxes inside clean packaging. Both are made of metal and feel hefty, sturdy, and well built. The camera attaches to the stand magnetically, and the connection felt very solid. I was concerned that the camera might wobble on the stand, but it stayed firm throughout my setup.

The magnetic mount also makes it easy to change the camera’s orientation. I could lift the camera from the mount, rotate it vertically, and put it back without adjusting screws or clamps. The corresponding orientation setting can then be changed in the software.

The included cable has USB-A on the computer end and USB-C on the camera end. YOLOLIV also includes an adapter for connecting the USB-A end to a USB-C port, which worked with my setup. I would still prefer a native USB-C to USB-C cable for newer computers, but the adapter is a practical alternative.

Downloading the companion app was easy, and the walkthrough made the initial setup straightforward. What surprised me most was the number of available controls. I could adjust manual exposure, color, and other image settings. The software also let me configure the autofocus to follow my face and save customized settings as presets.

I have not previously encountered a webcam with this many adjustable settings. The guided setup should help someone who prefers automatic operation, while the manual controls provide extensive room for customization.

According to the Amazon listing, the YoloCam S3 has a 1/1.3-inch sensor and supports uncompressed 4K at 30 fps and 1080p at 60 fps. The listing also specifies an 82-degree field of view, PDAF autofocus, a 1/4-inch-20 tripod interface, and 4x digital zoom at 1080p. These are seller-provided specifications and performance claims. I did not verify them during this initial setup.

My hands-on experience was limited to unboxing the camera, connecting it, installing the app, exploring its controls, and checking the magnetic mount. Based on that experience, the YoloCam S3 feels substantial, the mount is firm, and the software provides an unusually extensive selection of adjustments. I plan to use it for video production and Zoom calls, but I need more time with real projects before judging its video quality and long-term performance.
